 Joel Tudor, the world champion single fin rider, surfs at Big Rock in La Jolla. Joel is a world famous long board surfer who is also a San Diego native. His skill lead him to win his first professional competition at the young age of 14. He helped spark the revival of the longboard in the 1990s and is recognized as one of the most influential surfing legends.
Watch a clip of him take on the waves off the coast of La Jolla in this video. While you might not be as gifted a surfer as him, watching it will hopefully inspire you to get out and learn to surf on your next trip to San Diego. There are lots of places that offer group and private lessons to beginner and intermediate surfers. If you already know how to surf but don't want to have to haul a board on your vacation there are plenty of places near the beach to rent a board and a wet suit. |
