Hillcrest Hillcrest, located north of downtown, is commonly known as the cities largest gay community. Throughout University and 5th Street, you can find a diverse array of restaurants including: Asian, Italian, barbecue, Mexican, burgers, Japanese, Californian, Seafood, Pizza, Southwestern, Sushi, Tex-Mex and Thai. This diverse and quarky neighborhood is filled with thrift stores, coffeehouses, and independently owned specialty stores.

Point Loma On the tip of Point Loma rests the Cabrillo National Monument and the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. (Open daily 9am-5:15pm I 7-day pass $5 per car I $2 pedestrians & cyclists) Venture down to the beach and explore the abundance of aquatic life in the tide pools - best viewed during low and high tide. During lobster season (October 1st - March 22nd) you can go diving for lobster in the Point Loma Kelp Beds. In the winter months, you can watch the migrating gray whales on their way to Baja.

Ocean Beach Ocean Beach is a one-of-a-kind community filled with surfers, bikers and hippie-esque wanderlusts. Meander down Newport Street and check out the diverse antique shops, used music stores, bars and bistros. If you're hungry, head over to South Beach Bar & Grill for some amazing fish tacos. Take a walk down Ocean Beach Pier, the longest concrete pier on the West Coast, and gander out on the Pacific. Explore the Sunset Cliffs resplendent with beaches nestled between the rocks. If you want to bring your canine pal along for the day, Dog Beach offers a great haven for dogs to scamper around unleashed in the sand and surf.
