San Diego Veterans Museum and Memorial Center

Located in the historic Old Navy Chapel in Balboa Park, the Veterans Museum honors the men and women who served in the U.S. Armed Forces, Coast Guard and Wartime Merchant Marine. The building was constructed during WWII and served as the Naval Hospital until 1988. Exhibits and displays of artifacts, memorabilia, documents, photographs, equipment and artwork address the contributions and sacrifices of San Diego's Veterans. The original stained glass windows, based on Navy themes, are still in place and cast their light over seven large murals depicting the history and contributions of veterans. Docents are available to conduct tours and answer questions.

San Diego Veterans MuseumThe Museum's educational programs and seminars bring our history and the stories of veterans to new generations of visitors. We are partnered with the Library of Congress and conduct our own Veterans Oral History Program. Additionally, a Military History Research Library with over 6,000 volumes is on the premises. Check our website's Newsletter and Calendar for upcoming events.

Located adjacent to the Museum are the Veterans Memorial Garden with its bronze B-24 Memorial, the San Diego Vietnam Peace Memorial that lists all the San Diegans who lost their lives or were MIA in the Vietnam War, and the San Diego Purple Heart Monument.

The Museum's historic and colorful facilities are a unique and popular venue for reunions, conferences, meetings, luncheons and dinners, weddings, parties, ceremonies and memorial services. Contact our Events Coordinator at 619-239-2300 for additional information.

The Museum is a registered non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. The museum accepts donations of military artifacts, documents, photos, scrapbooks, books and artwork. Contact the museum for additional information.
